An unattended fire behind the Westclox Building in Peru caused the building to catch fire. Fire Chief Jeff King says firefighters were called around 8:19pm and started to evacuate businesses that were open at the time. Rt. 6 was closed by Peru Police to allow for other fire departments to help out. The fire was out just before 11pm. King thanked Peru Police, EMS, public works, Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch, and all the fire departments that came to help put the fire out. He says without their help, things could have turned out much worse.
