Organization against barge terminals asking people to attend Seneca Planning Commission meeting

A group called Citizens Against Barge Terminals in Seneca wants people to show up to the village’s Planning Commission Meeting tonight. The commission could decide if zoning changes should be made to allow up to 106 barges on the Illinois River east of the city. It would be the largest barge terminal operation in the state. The organization founded by Rick Sims, who tried to sue the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to stop the project, says this is the people’s chance to ask questions and raise concerns impacting the environment including fishing, hunting, recreational boating, and most importantly the tourism industry. Sims said in the lawsuit that the barges would ruin the rivers’ beauty. You can find out more information about the organization with this link.
