The city of Streator could decide next week if they want to invest in building an Arby’s at the former Gautschy’s Corner gas station. Property Owner Charles Walsh Jr. says they are asking for help to knock down the gas station with a $30,000 tax increment finance redevelopment agreement. There were also issues with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regarding oil contamination. Walsh says the issue has been taken care of after the perimeter has been cleaned up.
Mayor Tara Bedei says she and another council member will vote yes to move forward with the project, but it’s up to the full council to decide what happens. She says if the city decides to put money into the project, the property value would go up.
