Discussions continue about alcohol in Ottawa parks

By WCMY News Jun 30, 2023 | 8:09 AM

The Ottawa City Council is still discussing what parks alcohol should be allowed in. Mayor Robb Hasty said last month that no alcohol was allowed under the city’s ordinances, but yesterday during a special meeting said it is allowed with a special permit. Hasty thinks it’s okay for it to stay allowed in all parks as long as people fill out the permit if they want to have a special event.

Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says he doesn’t want it allowed close to playgrounds where kids play at.

Commissioner Tom Ganiere doesn’t see it that way.

Eichelkraut later asked the mayor and Commissioner Marla Pearson, who is in charge of the parks, to give a list of where they think it’s okay for alcohol to be allowed. No action was taken by the council on the discussion topic.
