Carus stopping use of Apollo Warehouse in LaSalle

By WCMY News Jun 20, 2023 | 5:56 AM

Carus Chemical will no longer use the Apollo Warehouse. The company announced they are discontinuing the use of the warehouse north of Porter St. and east of Zinc St. in LaSalle. VP of Operations Alan Gibbs says the warehouse stored non-hazardous materials, however in 2022 the decision was made to remove all chemicals because of the inconvenience of truck traffic caused by neighbors surrounding it. He says most of the chemicals were already taken out of the warehouse in February when the city of LaSalle asked to get rid of all the chemicals. That was done in early March. The chemicals were taken to Carus’ manufacturing plant or the Lotz Warehouse in Ottawa. Residents have been weary of the warehouse because of the condition the warehouse was in when it was storing chemicals. Gibbs also says though there aren’t any chemicals stored in Apollo, Carus is going to submit the 2023 Tier II report in March 2024 since chemicals were stored until March 3rd.
