Streator man pleads not guilty, gets higher bond in woman’s murder

A Streator man is facing up to 145 years in prison for the shooting of three people in Streator last month. 29-year old Malcolm J. Whitfield is accused of shooting and wounding two people in the 100 block of W. Hickory Street. But 35-year old Shaquita Kelly died from her injuries. Whitfield is now charged with murder in her death and aggravated battery for the other two victims. He pleaded not guilty Friday to the charges, including eight new counts that he’s recieved since returning from Memphis, TN because he allegedly fled. His bond was also raised to $5 million with the extra charges. He’ll be back in court in August. His alleged, accomplice 36-year old Rachel Carter, also pleaded not guilty Thursday to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aiding a fugitive. She’ll also be back in court in August.
