An Ottawa man will spend about 76 years in prison for trying to hire someone to kill some people in his criminal sexual assault case. 44-year old Christian Shepherd was convicted of solicitation of murder for hire by a Will County jury last year. Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow says the former school bus driver attempted to hire someone to kill the victim he was charged with sexually assaulting, the victim’s mother, and two detectives. He would later hire a second inmate to kill the same four people and the first hitman. Glasgow says the people Shepherd hired told police and foiled his plans. He says Shepherd is a soulless predator who was willing the take the lives of five people in a heinous attempt to avoid accountability for his abhorrent crimes. Shepherd will get credit for the 12 years he has already been in prison.
