Illinois Valley Community College is serving more than 50% of the high school population in their taxing district. Pres. Jerry Corcoran said during a previous Board of Trustees meeting that the percentage of students that the college has reached went from 44% to 52%. That’s the best the college has done in ten years. Corcoran says the college has been trying to do more to help students further their education while still in high school.

He says people are starting to realize that it’s not enough to get a high school diploma, you need a college education to move forward in life. He also says working to get more hybrid classes, meaning some in person and some online, has helped the college get more people to enroll. He wants the college wants to continue improving on what they’ve done to keep the college penetration rate up. Twenty high schools fall within the IVCC taxing district.
