LaSalle business owner cries foul after city noise ordinance updated again

One LaSalle business owner isn’t happy with the city’s lasted update to their noise ordinance. The change approved by the city council clears up language about how loud outdoor music needs to be stopped by 10pm Monday through Sunday. Nicks on Six Owner Gary Hammers says it’s not fair to him when one person apparently keeps calling the cops on his son’s bar for loud music at night. He says the person happens to be former LaSalle Alderman “Diz” Demes . He says twenty tickets have been given to the business for noise complaints; sixteen were signed by Demes.

Demes resigned from the city council last year due to health reasons. Hammers feels the resignation gives the former alderman more power.

Some of the alderman said they were confused because the bar did apply for several special event permits that were approved. Hammers also said the way the city’s ordinance was written was interpreted different ways and will effectivly end any loud noise after 10pm. Mayor Jeff Grove says the council always seem to be in favor of cutting off loud noise at 10. The LaSalle City Council voted 5-1 to change the ordinance to make it clearer that loud music stops after 10pm and that the applicant for a special event permit has to be the liquor license holder of any establishment. Alderman Jim Bacidore voted no because he said previously that he feels the same way that Hammers does about Demes.
