Congresswoman Lauren Underwood highlighted the Honoring Our PACT Act during a town hall meeting in LaSalle Saturday. She says the PACT Act expands health care to 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic substances during their military service.

People in attendance asked questions about the bill and about personal issues that they’ve dealt with involving the US Department of Veteran Affairs.

Underwood also highlighted other projects she’s working on including trying to get Community Project Funding for getting Ottawa a north side fire station to cut down on response times. California Cong. and House Veterans Affairs Ranking Member Mark Takano also joined Underwood to talk about the PACT Act. He also talked about how she’s introduced a bill helping women veterans.

He also talked about what the committee is doing for veterans and highlighted how more is being done to help local veteran homes improve their facilities. They also brought up other local issues like how rural hospitals like St. Margaret’t Health are problems staying open. Underwood says she wants to do more to help.

The meeting was held at the LaSalle VFW Post 4668 on Donahue Street.
