An out-of-county judge will not dismiss an Iowa man’s involuntary manslaughter case. 48-year old Mason Shannon is accused of choking 32-year old Michael Castelli to death in 2017 at Bonnie Plants northeast of Ottawa. He claimed that he couldn’t have gotten a fair retrial because prosecutors and some police officers botched the case. His attorneys also claimed that any evidence left in the case would only favor the state. Judge William Dickeson says although some of the things done by prosecutors could be considered unorthodox or sloppy; there isn’t enough to dismiss the case. Shannon’s lawyers say they want some extra time to talk to him about going to trial again. His next court date is set for July 10th.
