The city of Peru is starting a downtown redevelopment program. City Attorney Scott Schweickert (SCHWEYE-kert) says any commercial property owner interested will get an up to $5,000 grant from the city to make improvements on their buildings.
He says the TIF district covers more than just downtown. It covers Peru’s west and east ends.
He says it’s only for the Peru downtown Tax Increment Financing District. A storefront owner can only get one grant per fiscal year. Mayor Ken Kolowksi (kuh-LOW-ski) says it’s a positive thing and hopes it will improve storefronts downtown.
