Grant could reimburse Oglesby after paying for police body and police vehicle cameras

Oglesby Commissioner Terry Eutis says he’s looking at getting a grant to help pay for police body and car cameras. He says it could cost over $150,000 to buy the equipment. The grant would reimburse the city for buying it. Eutis says the deadline for applying for it is June 30th. All police departments in the state are required to have body cameras on police officers and in vehicles by 2025 after revisions to the Illinois SAFE-T Act were signed into law in 2022. Eutis says he’ll have a proposal about it at the city’s next meeting in June. He also says in the future the city has to update its IT infrastructure before the cameras come because they won’t have enough space to store all the footage.
