County Board tables sand company’s silo build a second time

A special use permit for a sand mining company was tabled again by the LaSalle County Board last week. Land Use Director Brian Gift says Northern White Sand wants to build more silos.

Board Member Brian Dose wanted to add a condition so a water well agreement would be created between the company and the residents on the Osage Curve, which is the curve on U.S 6 east of Utica near N. 2950th Rd. He says when sand is being digged for, the water shelf in a shallow well drops. Other board members were concerned about how much time they had to approve or reject the permit. They also want to know how many miles of land the water well agreement should cover. Board Member Mike Kasap of LaSalle was one of them.

The permit was sent back to the Land Use and TIF committee so they can look over the condition and hear from residents who want to comment about the well agreement. Dose also encourages people to come to the next committee meeting in June to comment on the permit and about the wells. A specific date for the committee meeting hasn’t been announced.
