Health Department to continue providing COVID-19 information after Public Health Emergency ends Thursday

The LaSalle County Health Department says they will continue to monitor COVID-19 cases in the county after the Public Emergency Declaration for the disease ends Thursday. The announcement comes after the Centers for Disease Control announced they will stop tracking and reporting COVID-19 cases at the community level, meaning they won’t provide a weekly update to show if cases are low, medium, or high. The department says for now vaccines will still be free as long as the federally purchased supply lasts, but it could cost someone to get tested and treated for the disease. The department says they want to aim to provide residents with the most up to date information. They say COVID-19 hasn’t disappeared, rather it has become a part of our daily lives and will likely continue to be a threat to our vulnerable population for several years.
