North Central Area Transit is getting some new buses. But Commissioner Wayne Eichelkraut says they aren’t like regular buses. They are similar to the vans used by Amazon drivers that deliver packages. The Ottawa City Council approved a vehicle purchase agreement for the four vans at last week’s meeting. But before they are used the vans have to be made hadicapped accessible. The city is using two grants totaling about $395,000 for handicap accessiblity and purchasing the vans.

Eichelkraut says NCAT serves between 350 to 375 people a day and more vehicles are needed to add to NCAT’s fleet. He says it’s have been tough on NCAT because the buses are getting older.

They should arrive in October.
