Wednesday is Illinois Bacon Day. It’s a day to recognize all the work Illinois Pork Producers do for the state. St. Sen Tom Bennett sponsored a Senate Joint Resolution to create the day. He says Illinois is the fourth largest pork producing state in the United States. According the Illinois Pork Producers Association, $13.8 billion in revenue comes from pork sales in the state.
He came up with the resolution after speaking to pork producers in Livingston County.
Bennett says the Illinois Senate enjoyed some BLT sandwiches outside the senate chambers so show their appreciation. Bennett’s senate district covers some of the southern part of LaSalle County.
