Behind-the-scenes work to wrap up 2023 election almost done

By WCMY News Apr 25, 2023 | 2:10 PM

After late arriving mail-in ballots and provisional ballots were counted, LaSalle County Clerk Jennifer Ebner ran the vote count for the official results last Tuesday night. Then she had a tie to settle for one of the positions in the Allen Township Land Commission race. Two candidates got 59 votes each. The candidates wrote their names on ping pong balls and a County Clerk employee picked one from a container. John Kling is the winner.

Ebner sent certifications to the election winners. Now she’s sending and receiving information for the multi-county races to be put in the books. Illinois Valley Community College’s district covers eight counties, and many smaller school districts and fire protection districts straddle county lines. There are also legislative districts crossing county lines.

As she works on wrapping up the 2023 consolidated elections, Ebner is already asking for election judges for the primary next March. She wants at least five at each precinct.
