Update: Multiple fire departments called after log fire spreads to part of a barn north of Marseilles

Multiple fire departments were called Friday night just in case a barn went up in flames north of Marseilles. Assistant Fire Chief Larry Cowie says the Marseilles Fire Department was called to the 2300 block of N. 31st Rd because some logs were on fire. He says a homeowner thought he had put out something he was burning in a barrel and walked away. When he came back embers from whatever was in the barrel caused the logs to catch fire. Cowie says he called for extra assistance when a corner of the barn started catching fire because he didn’t want it to get out of control. The fire department was able to put out the log fire and stop the flames from completely engulfing the barn.
