Dr. Michael Kent Harney, D.O., 79, of Ottawa, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Visitation will be from 11 to 1 p.m. Friday, April 14 at Seals-Campbell Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Military honors will be accorded following the service. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Marseilles at a later date.
He was born on November 26, 1943, in Denver, CO, to Grover Granville Jr. and Jeanne (Bremen) Harney. On July 8, 1977, he married Vickie Anne Wisneski of Marseilles who preceded him in death in 2017.
Michael served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic in Germany. He attended Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school and graduated in 1976. Dr. Harney practiced in the Ottawa area for over thirty years until his retirement in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and looking for arrow heads.
He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon and Erin Harney, both of Birmingham, AL; one sister, Sue Croxton; and his mother-in-law, Sheila Wisneski.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vickie; and one sister, Patricia Crain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Randy and Randy II Hooper, Jason Allen, and Kaed Wisneski.
There will be a celebration of life held at the Marseilles American Legion following the service. Please bring written stories and pictures to share.
