It’s been quiet around Ottawa at the polls for the 2023 consolidated election. Election judges said they’re hoping it becomes busier once people are done with work. Judge Denise Hudkins says this is her last election. She’s hoping a new generation of people will take over. She says raising pay would help.

17-year old Hannah Penoyer is an election judge for the first time. She says she’s good friends with County Clerk Jennifer Ebner and wanted to help. She also says there needs to be a new generation of young people helping in elections.

Polls remain open until 7pm this evening. Races for mayor, commissioner, and village board are happening throughout the county. Also school boards, the Illinois Valley Community College Board of Trustees, and a referendum for voters in the Reading Township to get ambulance service from Streator’s new ambulance service. You can call the LaSalle County Clerk’s Office if you’re not sure where your precinct is or where you are supposed to vote. The phone number is 815-434-8201.
