In local sports, in high school softball action, Washington rolled Streator 11-1, Seneca crushed Woodland 12-2, Ottawa fell to Beecher 4-0, and Marquette defeated Dwight 13-3. In high school baseball, St. Bede lost to El Paso-Gridley 4-1,  Seneca beat Woodland-Flanagan/Cornell 13-4, Streator won over Lisle 14-3, Ottawa fell to Hall 19-3, and Marquette beat Dwight 13-0.

>Blackhawks Fall To Stars

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Blackhawks are on a six-game losing streak following their 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars at United Center. Tyler Johnson scored the Blackhawks only goal with less than ten minutes left in regulation.  Chicago is in last-place in the Central Division with 54 points and a 24-44-and-6 record.  The Blackhawks host the Blues tomorrow night.  In other team news, the Blackhawks signed prospect Antti Saarela to a two-year entry-level contract yesterday.

>>Bulls Host Lakers

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Bulls look for their second victory over the Lakers this week when the two teams meet at United Center tonight.  The Bulls beat the Lakers 118-108 on Sunday before falling to the Clippers the very next day.  Chicago is in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference at 36-and-39.  They are holding on to the final play-in spot by a game-and-a-half over the Washington Wizards.

>>Cubs Beat White Sox

(Mesa, AZ)  —  The Cubs scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take down the White Sox 8-5 in Spring Training yesterday.  Luis Vazquez homered for the Cubs, while Drew Smyly gave up four earned runs and one unearned run on ten hits in four innings.  Andrew Vaughn and Romy Gonzalez both went deep for the Southsiders.  The game was both teams’ final exhibition contest of the Spring.  The Cubs will send Marcus Stroman to the mound to open the season against the Brewers tomorrow, and Dylan Cease gets the call for the White Sox against the Astros.

>>Illinois G Epps Leaves Program

(Champaign, IL)  —  The Illinois men’s basketball team is losing one of its best players.  Guard Jayden Epps announced on his Twitter yesterday that he is entering the transfer portal.  Epps averaged nine-and-a-half points per game last season, and he started in 11 of his 31 appearances.  In other program news, forward Coleman Hawkins declared for the NBA Draft yesterday, but he will still be eligible to play next season if he withdraws from the draft by May 31st.
