Peru Mayor Ken Kolowski says it’s absurd. Volunteers willing to pick up trash along Illinois 251 by the Peru Mall and Interstate 80 aren’t allowed. The Illinois Department of Transportation says so. But there are other places around the city where the volunteers can help and IDOT doesn’t set the rules.
Kolowski said at last night’s city council meeting, he saw some state employees along Illinois 251 on Friday. He hopes they’ll keep at it.
