In local sports, in high school softball action, St. Bede rolled Hall 15-0, Ottawa fell to Oswego 9-3 and Marquette defeated Princeton 11-1. In high school baseball, Serena beat Woodland 11-0, Hall won over St. Bede 6-1, Lasalle-Peru rolled Sterling 16-1, and Ottawa fell to Plainfield South 12-2. 

>>Ugly Third Quarter Dooms Bulls

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  The Bulls went quiet in the middle two quarters of their 124-112 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Crypto-dot-com Arena.  The Bulls trailed by seven at halftime after leading by five after the first quarter, and they fell apart in the third quarter, getting outscored 37-22.  Zach LaVine led Chicago with 23 points, and DeMar DeRozan finished with 21.  The Bulls are in tenth-place in the Eastern Conference at 36-and-39.  They host the Lakers tomorrow night.

>>Blackhawks Host Stars

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Blackhawks will try to snap a five-game losing streak when they host the Dallas Stars at United Center tonight.  The Blackhawks are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.  Chicago has already been eliminated from playoff contention, and they are in last place in the Central Division with 54 points and a 24-43-and-6 record.

>>Report: Cubs Extend Hoerner

(Mesa, AZ)  —  The Cubs are locking down their star middle infielder.  ESPN is reporting that the club inked second baseman Nico Hoerner to a three-year contract extension worth 35-million dollars yesterday.  The deal buys out Hoerner’s final two arbitration years, and he won’t hit free agency until a year later than anticipated.  The 25-year-old hit .281 with ten home runs, 55 RBI, and 20 stolen bases last season.  In other club news, the Cubs and the White Sox played to a 6-6 draw in Spring Training yesterday, and the two teams meet again to wrap up exhibition play this afternoon.

>>Dainja Returns To Illini

(Champaign, IL)  —  The Illinois Fighting Illini are getting an integral part of their men’s basketball team back next season.  Forward Dain Dainja announced yesterday on Twitter that he is staying with the program for another season.  Dainja averaged nine-and-a-half points and five-and-a-half rebounds per game in 33 appearances this past season.
