Ottawa employees union feels slighted after candidate forum

A union that represents dozens of Ottawa city employees wants people to know that a majority of its members, not just the union president, feel a labor contract isn’t being followed. Mayor Dan Aussem said at a candidate forum, the only problem with outsourcing some jobs is a union president interpreting the contract incorrectly. The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 2819 says President Bob Anderson didn’t make the decision by himself. AFSCME says the contract provision letting the city outsource work the employees can’t do hasn’t been a problem until recently. AFSCME endorsed another candidate in the mayor’s race.
