(Notre Dame, IN) — Notre Dame is hiring Penn State’s basketball coach to run its men’s team. ESPN reports Micah Shrewsberry is finalizing a seven-year contract to join the Fighting Irish. Shrewsberry turned down a long-term extension from the Nittany Lions as the prospect of going back home became a key factor in his decision. The coach guided Penn State to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011. The 46-year-old will replace Mike Brey, who announced back in January he would be stepping down after 23 seasons with Notre Dame.

The team announced yesterday that Marcus Stroman will man the rubber when the Cubs host the Brewers in their first game of the season a week from today. The 31-year-old went 6-and-7 with a 3.50 ERA in his first season with the Cubs last year. In other Cubs news, the team beat the A’s 4-2 in Spring Training yesterday. They take on Arizona this afternoon.

Eloy Jimenez returned to Chicago’s line-up after a brief injury as the White Sox lost to the Royals 4-3. Mike Clevinger gave up one run over five innings during a 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers. The Southsiders send Michael Kopech to the mound against the Giants today.
