Jefferson Elementary School and Shepherd Middle School in Ottawa are getting new intercom systems. The Ottawa Elementary School Board approved a $315,000 bid from Interstate Electric Company to install the intercoms. Supt. Michelle Lee says Shepherd’s intercom system is obsolete. When the district had to fix an issue with the intercom, Engineer Mark Tabor had to go to Ebay to find a part.

The district will use a $50,000 school maintenance grant to pay for Jefferson’s new intercom system. The old parts from Jefferson’s intercom will be put to good use.

The projects will be worked on over the summer.
