A federal jury found a Bartlett man guilty last week of robbing three banks, including one in Ottawa, in May 2018. James D. Williams is waiting for his sentence while his alleged partner in the crimes is waiting for her trial.
Alexis Handelman refused to testify against Williams last week. The judge handling Williams’s case ruled that nothing Handelman said on the witness stand could be used against her in her own case. She still refused and now has a contempt finding against her.
Jessica Sweeney Williams is to report to prison this summer for a two-year sentence for giving James Williams a gun at a shooting range. They’re married and prosecutors said she knew of his prior felony record.
