Former Ottawa Floodplain Manager Mike Sutfin was remembered at the Illinois Flood Alliance Advisory Committee Meeting last week. St. Sen Sue Rezin says without Sutfin’s knowledge, the committee would have never been created. She highlighted how he made Ottawa one of the top ten most flood prepared cities in the US by raising the city’s Community Rating. She says when flooding affected her district several years ago, Ottawa was mostly unscathed.
She also recognized Sutfin for getting grants to get buildings out of the floodplain.
