A building in Grandview, Illinois is now named for Justice Robert L. Carter of Ottawa. Carter grew up in the village now surrounded by the state’s capital city. The village’s municipal building is rented out for social events and the village has its special events there. The 76-year old Carter retired from the Illinois Supreme Court just a few months ago. He was appointed in 2020 after Tom Kilbride lost his retention bid. Carter had been a judge for about 42 years, starting with an appointment as an associate judge when he was 33.

Correction: We apologize for inadvertently identifying Judge Carter with the wrong middle intitial in this story previously.
