LaSalle County buying Oglesby building for coroner’s office

LaSalle County Coroner Rich Ploch asked for more office space and he’ll get it in Oglesby. The County Board today approved buying a former medical building for $250,000 from St. Margaret’s Health.

Ploch says there’s no room in the current Etna Rd. courthouse office for family consultations and handling the deceased’s medications. It’ll be a few months before he can move. The place needs some remodeling.

The County Board almost voted today on remodeling the building for $100,000, but some members were upset that didn’t go to the Public Safety Committee first. So it will, and then the board can vote on it.

Four people work in his Etna Rd. office and it’s standing room only when anyone goes there for business. It’s easy for everyone to overhear families and coroner’s office personnel talking about how someone died.

The new office will be at 520 W. Walnut in Oglesby.
