Ottawa City Hall is hiring the YMCA to help run Riordan Pool. Mayor Dan Aussem says the city will pay $250,000 per year for two years for janitorial services, chemical treatments, and lifeguards.
That agreement’s on file for a vote at a later meeting. The Y’s new building with an indoor pool is expected to open next year.
The new Riordan Pool is supposed to open by Memorial Day. It’s costing around $6.7 million. To fund it, the city approved a $1.5 million bond issue last night to add to the $5.1 million already borrowed. Commissioner James Less, having voiced objections to spending so much without a referendum, was in the four-to-one minority.
