A leak from a vac truck caused some contaminated water from the Carus fire site to leak onto 7th St. in LaSalle Monday. Deputy City Clerk Brent Bader says the water had some potassium permanganate in the water and could have caused it to turn pink. He says gallons of water was lost, but he didn’t say the exact amount. The city’s fire department and public works department went to the spill to see if there would be any issues. Fire Chief Jerry Janick says he didn’t see any discoloration when he showed up. The city also called several agencies to check if there should be any concerns for residents. Bader says after speaking with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, the Illinois Department of Public Health, and other agencies there is no public health risks and there was no damage to homes.
