Some area communities are getting part of a $60 million grant award in the Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program. Ottawa’s getting $506,000. Marseilles and Morris are each getting $600,000. The money’s for developing parks and recreational areas outside. Marseilles Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says the city will improve Broadway Park and put splash pads in there. Ottawa Mayor Dan Aussem says the city will create a paved walking loop in Allen Park, put in chess and checkers tables, build a new playground and more.
There was a playground here in Allen Park. Ottawa's getting a grant to develop a new one and make other improvements to the park.
