Because of his experience as a foster parent, St. Rep. Jed Davis was appointed to the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Working Group. It’s a bipartisan group that develops policies and solutions to help improve the agency. Davis says he and his wife have been foster parents for the last eight to nine years, so he understands what he calls the insanity within the agency.
While on the committee, he says doesn’t want to point fingers at people but rather would want to sit down with people across the aisle and make the agency a true asset for families.
He also introduced legislation last week that would help lessen the financial burden on foster parents. He says the group needs to recruit great foster parents who can be the loving arms for the kids being taken care of by the agency. The agency is caring for 20,000 children.
