In girls high school hoops, Serena defeated Newark 36-24 to claim the Class 1A Sectional title. Reese Cole led with nine and Jenna Setchell added eight.

(Champaign, IL) — The unranked Illinois Fighting Illini knocked off number-22 Northwestern at State Farm Center. The Fighting Illini trailed by 18 at halftime before outscoring the Wildcats 47-25 in the second half. Terrence Shannon Jr. broke a 61-61 tie with a go-ahead lay-up in the final 80 seconds of regulation. He poured in 26 points for the Illini, who improved to 19-and-9 overall and 10-and-7 in Big Ten play. Illinois visits Ohio State on Sunday. Boo Buie had a game-high 35 points in the losing effort. The 20-and-8 Wildcats fell to 11-and-6 in Big Ten action, and they visit Maryland on Sunday.

(Winston-Salem, NC) — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish aim to avoid their seventh-straight loss when they visit Wake Forest in North Carolina tomorrow night.
