The Oglesby Elks Lodge is helping the Lighted Way Children’s Development Center. Spokesman Ken Ficek says the lodge is donating $70,000 to go toward a foundation for a new playground being built at the development center’s new school. It will be a spongy surface that makes it easier for children who use a wheelchair or cane to be able to get to the playground equipment without getting stuck on wood chips or stones. Ficek says the Elks have been raising money for children with special needs for years. It’s through the Elks Children’s Care Fund.

The members of Lighted Way were very happy with the donation.

Lighted Way Development Center Executive Director Jessica Kreiser says a $70,000 donation from the Oglesby Elks Lodge is important for the school’s new playground because students with special needs have to be able to play and have fun just like any kid would.

Lighted Way purchased the Heritage Manor Building in LaSalle last year so it can be remodeled into a new school for children with special needs. Kreiser says the school will be able to triple the square footage to allow for more students to enroll. The new school is scheduled to open on July 1st.
