Special Olympics Illinois is looking to raise $50,000 for this year’s Polar Plunge in Mendota. The event is this Saturday at noon at the Mendota Civic Center. Development Director Katie Risley says people can register by going to plunge Illinois dot com or they can come on Saturday at 10am and register. She says as of Monday, at least 200 people have registered for the plunge.

But if you can’t make it to the Mendota Civic Center this Saturday to plunge in person, Risley says you can plunge on your own. She says people can use their own pool.

After people plunge, Risley says there are activities going on at the Civic Center. There will also be a contest for the best costume. Participants will be shuttled from the Civic Center to the area where they will plunge. You can go to the Plunge Illinois website to sign up and get more information about the plunge.
