Upgrades will be made at the Byron and Braidwood nuclear power plants. Constellation Energy says it’ll increase generating capacity by 135 megawatts in the next six years with an $800 million investment in new turbines.

Exelon Generation owned the power plants in 2020 and warned that it would have to close them if it didn’t get financial support. State and federal legislation passed since support nuclear power plants.

Braidwood is in Braceville southeast of Morris. The Byron plant is in Byron near Rockford.
