Illinois EPA gives grants for identifying lead water lines and developing sewer system

LaSalle, Oglesby, and Peru are getting state money to survey water service lines. The North Central Illinois Council of Governments says the funding is for figuring out where the lead service lines are and how many there are. That may lead to programs to replace them with non-lead lines. Lead water lines have been mostly safe, but sometimes lead comes out and gets into the water. Lead is a toxic metal that’s especially harmful to children. LaSalle and Oglesby are getting $40,000 and Peru is getting $50,000. In another program, the Illinois EPA is giving $5,000,000 to the village of Rutland to develop a sewer system.
