The Ottawa Port District and City Hall have chosen an engineer to design a new railyard. Mayor Dan Aussem says the port district must still buy the land. It’ll be east of Champlain St. along a two-mile stretch of track. And it’ll replace the railyard west of Champlain St. so trains going back and forth for assembly aren’t blocking street traffic anymore. Aussem’s not expecting any new streets to be developed there.
The state’s paying almost $10 million for the project.
