Some Marseilles council members not in favor of land being used for fireworks sales

Some Marseilles City Council officials are hesitant to allow some land to be used to sell fireworks. The new owners of The Cliffs Insane Terrain Off-Road Park said someone approached them asking to use some of their land to sell fireworks. Mayor Jim Hollenbeck says he isn’t a fan of the idea because of the number of calls the police department gets about pets being scared and veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder.

He says the request would have to go to the city’s planning commission first. And if approved by the commission and the council the fireworks stand would have to be inspected.

But something good came out of the discussion. The city might update its fireworks ordinance in the future because of the discussion with the business owners at the meeting.
