Streator’s City Council is considering whether to let people have hens in their yards. Roosters crow very loudly, but hens are relatively quiet. And they lay eggs. Mayor Tara Bedei says with high egg prices, City Hall’s getting a lot of requests for clarity on how many of the birds someone can have in a regular residential yard.
This could come up in a city council meeting in March. People who own chickens warn that there are start-up costs and a lot of work, so waiting for egg prices to come down is a better solution for many.
