Two Peru Police Officers were honored last night for saving a woman from a drug overdose three weeks ago. Police Chief Sarah Raymond says Officers Brad Jones and Michelle Leary found the woman unconscious when they were called. Leary gave the woman a dose of Narcan, the opioid overdose drug, and began CPR with Office Jones. After a pulse wasn’t located a second dose of Narcan was given. The officers continued administering CPR and eventually the woman regained consciousness and was able to speak to the officers. The Lifesaving Awards were given to the officers by Sgt. Scott DeGroot. Raymond says without the quick actions of the two officers the woman could have died. She also says this is reason why every officer in the department carries Narcan.
