Scholarships available through Regional Office of Education and Illinois Valley Community College

Applications for a scholarship through The LaSalle, Marshall, and Putnam Counties Regional Office of Education is open for the 2023-24 school year. Supt. Chris Dvorak says the Joseph J. Hohner Scholarship is for full-time students who attends or graduated from Ottawa High School or Marquette Academy. It can be used for elementary and secondary school tuition as well as for trade schools, a bachelor’s degree, or a doctorate degree. The awards range from $100 to $20,000. Applications can be picked up at the regional office as well as OHS and Marquette Academy. They are due by Monday, April 17th at 4:30 at the regional office in the downtown LaSalle County Courthouse.

Two $1,000 scholarships are available through the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation for students who exceed in art and theater. mThe money for the scholarship was donated by Artist and Actor Glen Gerrard of Oglesby. He appeared in and worked behind the scenes for IVCC Theater productions in the 1960’s. He says there is so much exceptional talent in the halls of the college that are struggling to get through. Gerrard’s sister Bonnie Kolowski is also contributing to the scholarship Gerrard still works in theater designing sets. He is also a member of Stage 212 in LaSalle and is currently creating the group’s digital archives.
