Seven county Republican Party chairs, including Larry Smith from LaSalle County, will meet in Gibson City today. They’re naming a new Illinois House member. There’s an empty seat in the 106th district, because former St. Rep. Tom Bennett was appointed last month to fill a vacant Senate seat. The party chairs get votes weighted by how many people voted for Bennett in the November election. The 106th district covers part of southern LaSalle County.
