A Streator man has a little more than three weeks to hire a lawyer or figure out how he’ll represent himself in an attempted murder case. Twenty year old Courtney Perkins told Judge H. Chris Ryan today, he wants to do without a lawyer. After Ryan told him he’s allowed but it’s very hard, Perkins said maybe he’ll hire a private attorney.

Perkins is accused of shooting at a police officer who was arresting 26-year old Alaina Cravatta of Streator at the end of an undercover drug deal she and Perkins allegedly partnered for in September. Both are accused of illegal shooting and drug dealing, although Cravatta’s not accused of handling the gun. Perkins could get up to 100 years in prison, if convicted. His trial is scheduled for the week of February 27.

Cravatta doesn’t have a trial date. She’s scheduled to be in court March 3 for a case update hearing with a judge.
