SMP Health says it never intended to close the Peru hospital when St. Margaret’s Health Spring Valley and Illinois Valley Community Hospital merged. SMP Health says it would like to apologize for the way word of the closure got out. It says it never intended to blindside everyone. It was a sudden announcement last Friday that St. Margaret’s Health Peru would close at 7am tomorrow. SMP Health says a number of things caused the closure including a staff shortage, the pandemic, a cyber-attack, and economic concerns.
