Ottawa plans to borrow more to cover pool costs

Ottawa City Hall needs more money to finance the new Riordan Pool. The plan is to borrow another $1.5 million. The city borrowed $5.1 million last year. After just one bid came in, the City Council awarded a $6.7 million contract to Vissering Construction.

The City Council last night put on file a letter of engagement with Bernardi Securities to handle another bond issue. Commissioner James Less objected. He also voted against the borrowing last year, saying the city should ask voters if they want to spend so much.
