OGS Superintendent wants to use Central School for 8th grade graduation

8th graders in the Ottawa Elementary School District could graduate at Central Intermediate School. Supt. Michelle Lee announced a plan at last night’s school board meeting. She says graduates and family will be in the school’s gym and the cafetorium. She says the stage can be opened on both sides. She also says students will get the same number of tickets for their families that they’ve gotten in previous years.

The school had to find a different option for graduation this year because Ottawa High School is ending its school year earlier than normal to install air conditioning. Lee says the high school gave the district permission to use the football field like in years past, but Central has more parking and is the safer option in case it rains. The district would have to rent chairs and a tarp so it wouldn’t damage the floors. Up to 200 students could graduate this year.
